A new study, presented during the experimental Biology 2010 meeting in Anaheim, suggests higher recommended levels of vitamin D may be needed to ensure muscle health.
In this study, Dr Houston analysed data from people with an average age of 75 years. However, they can't prove causality. Indeed, it is possible that people with better physical function have higher levels of vitamin D because they get outside more often, as vitamine D synthesis is linked to sunlight exposure!
An other american recent study show a link between poor vitamin D blood level and accumulation of fat mass tissue muscle and lower muscle strenght.
